Welcome to the 14th Asian Congress of Nutrition (ACN). It is a privilege for us to be the host of the 14th ACN and we are pleased to invite all of you to the 14th ACN in Chengdu, China between the 14th and 17th Sept 2023. The conference theme will be “Feeding the Future by Sustainable Nutrition”. Since 1973, ACN was held by the Federation of Asian Nutrition Societies (FANS) every four years.
In this conference, our aim is to encourage the discussion and gain valuable knowledge on a broad range of nutritional issue such as Food and energy storage, coexisting malnutrition situation, emerging, prevalence of nutrition related chronic disease and aging of societies etc. China made a great effort to tackle these important issues to improve the health and wellbeing of these people. With the joint efforts between Chinese government and its people, China has achieved significant progress and is keen to share its experiences with the world. Thus, our committee categorized eight sessions in order to covering this board topics, namely: 1. Nutrition and Sustainable Development, 2. Basic Nutrition& Research, 3. Public Nutrition & Health, 4. Food & Nutrition, 5. Nutrition Across Lifespan, 6. Nutrition Education, 7. Clinical Nutrition, 8. Precision Nutrition.
Chengdu, located in the central part of Sichuan Province, is the capital of Sichuan Province, one of the first national historical and cultural cities in China, and an important central city in the southwest region. Chengdu is an important birthplace of the ancient “Shu civilization” and the center of the "Land of Abundance". Chengdu has a graceful natural ecological environment and abundant biological resources. There are 8 nature reserves in Chengdu where rare animals such as giant pandas, golden monkeys and takins live.
We hope all the participants will be able to benefit from the congress as it will be packaged with insightful and inspiring information. The congress will fortify the Asia and international network of researchers and professionals. With the collaboration and support of all attendants and with the spirit of partnership and working together we hope that achieving the goal of the ACN.

Dr Neufeld began her career in an academic position at the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico where she led a variety of implementation research and impact evaluation studies to improve the impact potential of social protection programs in Mexico and the region. She then brought her passion for improving the generation and utilization of evidence in program design and delivery to non-governmental organizations, most recently the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, before joining FAO as Director of the Food and Nutrition Division in early 2022. Dr Neufeld is President of the International Union of Nutrition Scientists (IUNS), Past-Chair of the Micronutrient Forum Steering Committee, former Board member of the American Society of Nutrition, and has been member of several WHO and other technical advisory groups. She has published over 150 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and holds a Master’s and PhD in International Nutrition from Cornell University.
Professor Alfredo Martínez is the current Director of Precision Nutrition Programs at IMDEA, where he utilizes his diverse educational background to further research in the field of nutrition. He holds a BPharm (licenciado) degree, a PhD (Doctorado) from the University of Navarra, and an MD degree from the University of Zaragoza.Throughout his career, Professor Martinez has focused on Precision Personalized Nutrition, including Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics Sciences. He has been involved in several landmark EU nutritional trials, such as DIOGENES, SEAFOODplus, NUGENOB, FOOD4ME, STOP, PREVIEW, DIETARY DEAL, and SWEET.By integrating Nutritional genomics knowledge and technologies in Communicable and Chronic diseases management and Precision Nutrition, Professor Martinez has helped a greater number of food and health professionals, such as pharmacists, offer these analyses in disease prevention and health maintenance. His contributions have advanced the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences, producing more than 30,000 article citations.
Dr. Untoro Juliawati, is a Technical Lead for Nutrition with World Health Organization Regional Office for the Western Pacific Region (WHO WPRO) based in Manila, Philippines. She provides technical and strategic support on nutrition to 37 countries and areas in the Western Pacific region. She has over 25 years global experiences in nutrition and public health programming and sciences with numerous multilateral agencies, including WHO, UNICEF, World Bank, South-East Asian Ministry of Education Organization – Tropical Medicine.Prior to this position, she was a Nutrition Specialist at UNICEF Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa in Nairobi, Kenya and UNICEF Headquarters New York, USA and Health and Nutrition Officer at the World Bank Indonesia. She holds a PhD in Human Nutrition from Wageningen University, the Netherlands.
Professor Hyun-Sook Kim has worked as a Council member of IUNS since 2017 and is currently serving as the President-Elect of the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS), having previously worked as a Council member of IUNS since 2017. She is a highly respected professor in the Department of Food and Nutrition at Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul, Korea, where she has been teaching since 1993. Professor Kim has a strong research interest in the area of Nutritional Immunology and Nutrition in Aging. She has published over 150 research paper publications and presentations, showcasing her expertise in the field. Recently, she has conducted application-based nutrition intervention studies, implementing diet modulation to prevent chronic diseases. Beyond her research, Professor Kim is dedicated to capacity building programs for young scientists, with the aim of improving the health of populations by securing adequate healthy and safe nutrition. Her contributions to the field of nutritional science have made her an influential figure, respected by her peers across the globe.
Hisanori Kato Ph. D. is a Project Professor at Kagawa Nutrition University. Dr. Kato graduated from The University of Tokyo and was appointed Assistant of The University of Tokyo in 1988 and received his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 1990. He served as a guest researcher at the Diabetes Branch, National Institutes of Health, USA (1991-1993). He then became Associate Professor at Utsunomiya University in 1993 and at The University of Tokyo in 1999. He became a Project Professor at the University of Tokyo in 2009 and has been in his current position since 2023. Dr. Kato’s recent research focus is the evaluation of the effects of food components by making use of various omics technologies. He has received several awards including “The Japan Society of Nutrition and Food Science Award for Excellence in Research” in 2015. Dr. Kato has just completed his two-year’s term as the president of the Japan Society of Nutrition and Food Science. He served as the chair of the Organizing Committee of the 22nd International Congress of Nutrition (IUNS-ICN2022). He is also the chair of the Federation of Japanese Nutrition Societies.
Dr Rubina Hakeem is currently serving as the Chief Nutritionist and Head of Human Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Ziauddin University Karachi. She has earlier served as the Principal and Professor of Nutrition, at Raana Laiqat Ali Khan College of Home Economics, Karachi and as Professor at Taibah University, Madinah Saudi Arabia for three years. She is a council member of IUNS, a fellow of Association for Nutrition UK. Fellow of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and is registered as dietitian with health professions council UK. She got her masters from Karachi University and Doctorate from University of London UK. She is a chairperson of Nutrition foundation of Pakistan, member of: World Public Health Nutrition Association, International federation of Home Economics, Diabetes in Asia Study group, FAO FSN forum, and “Global Dietary database”.
She has received several awards in recognition of her services to the field of nutrition, diabetes, higher education, and research.
